Art Book: Full Bleed-A view into New York Skateboarding History

FB to FBlog Tags: — @ 12:03 pm June 3, 2010 —

Damm…the photo on the right gave me the chills. Reminded me of an old New York. I remember that gas station on the corner of Houston & Broadway so vividly. I’d make a stop at David Z’s, EMS, Transit, Atruim & Finally Wendy’s. That’s if I was in a rush.

Releasing a book that is sure to have all fans of skateboarding (past or present) especially skateboard photography busting a nut in their pants. Full Bleed is a collection of photos ranging from 30 years of the pioneers of NYC skateboarding and the photographers that helped make it happen.

Featuring the works of photographers like Spike Jonze, Giovanni Reda, Larry Clark, Atiba Jefferson, Tobin Yelland and others, this is a definite must have for all those passionate about the culture in front and in back of the lens.

F.luxury.B x LA Women Book by Estevan Oriol [Special Delivery]

ferris-bueller-x-estevan-oriols-la-women-book-1

This all came about by chance. Missed my flight & the homie Lulu said “you still around ?” i said “yeah mane”. Without warning Lulu gave me a tour the real LA. The LA Hollywood aka Hollywerid chooses to ignore while powdering it’s nose. Places like skidrow, East LA & MS13 territory. Lulu explained to me what it was like going up in East LA as a shorty. After the street tour we hit up SA Studios home to both Estevan Oriol and Mr. Cartoon. Like a excited kid I could not wait to see Mr. Cartoon’s car collection!!! Then it was on to Mr. Oriol’s equally impressive photos. We chopped it up for a bit & headed out to King Taco. Estevan schooled me to scene & warned me don’t get caught slippin. (sidebar: LA has the best tacos mane.) Estevan pointed out I was the only black person in King Taco except for the black cop that walked in minutes later. I can’t front. This sadden me for a sec. to know in 2010 aka the future. We are still segregated in the land of the free.  I guess we are all submerged in our own subcultures. “Free your hearts & show your Greatness” people. Unity is an amazing thing. Okay okay…enought of my Malcom/Martin cries. LA Women is differentially a true representation of where Mr. Estevan stems from. Go copp it! He was nice enough to sign mine. Hit more…fool! Art Book: MaRIO DE JANEIRO Testino by Mario Testino

FB to FBlog Tags: , , — @ 12:37 pm November 24, 2009 —

mario-de-janeiro-testino-by-mario-testino

“Zé Pequeno: Can you read?
Hood: I can read only the pictures.”

Mario Testino is one of the world’s most successful fashion and portrait photographers, whose images are noted for their freshness and intimacy. Peruvian by birth, Testino has been fascinated by Rio de Janeiro since his earliest summer vacations. “When I was 14, on holiday, and going from my house to the beach and seeing everyone walk everywhere in their tiny bathing suits—the girls and boys were so sexy and carefree and wild—I just could not believe it.” This easy sensuality, sexual freedom and lust for life left a deep impression; Testino has been going back ever since, for work and fun, passion and inspiration. Featuring candid shots of exquisite cariocas baring nubile flesh, including supermodel Gisele Bündchen, MaRIO DE JANEIRO Testino captures the essence of this incomparably seductive city and its sultry citizens. From its breathtaking sunset panoramas, to the throbbing chaos of its world-famous carnival, this is Testino’s love poem to the Brazilian metropolis that captured his teenage heart, and never let go. Available at Taschen. Hit more for a sneak peek.
